Huskies Have The Firepower To Beat Utah

In his Seattle Times Husky football blog, Bob Condotta mentioned the big shift in the line on the Washington-Utah game yesterday. The Utes opened as 7 ½-point favorites. The line briefly went down to 7, and now it’s shot all the way up to 10 at Bodog.com.

Utah’s favored by 10? Why? I have no idea. I guess it’s partly because the Utes are at home, and they’re all fired up for their first Pac-12 home game at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah also has one of the better defenses in the conference.

As a Coug, I don’t want the Dawgs to win. And I don’t want Utah to win by 10; I want them to win by 50. As I’ve mentioned many times, there’s nothing better than the post-game show on KJR after the Huskies get it handed to them.

But I can’t see it happening tomorrow. In fact, unless I’m missing something – which is hopefully and probably the case – I think the Dawgs are going to beat the Utes and come home 4-1. Then they’ll no doubt beat Colorado to improve to 5-1.

You know what that means – if the Dawgs are 5-1, their fans will start talking about challenging Stanford and Oregon for the Pac-12 North Division championship. They’ll be falling all over each other to praise Coach Sark. They’ll cut Nick Holt some slack. Basically, they’ll be more intolerable than they already are.

If the Huskies limit their turnovers against an opportunistic Utah defense, they should be highly productive with that offense of theirs. I just don’t see the Utes stopping them, not with Keith Price, Chris Polk, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and too many blue-chip wide receivers to list.

On the other side of the ball, the Husky defense is an average unit, but Utah’s offense isn’t exactly high-powered. As much as I hope that Nick Holt’s boys give up 457 yards like they did to Cal, I can’t see Utah generating those kinds of numbers.

Hate to say it, but I think the Dawgs are going to get it done tomorrow night:

HUSKIES 27, UTES 24

TOMORROW: The pick on the Coug game in Boulder.

ALSO TOMORROW: Hope you’ll join me at the Newport Hills Mustard Seed for the WSU-Colorado game at 12:30. Get a load of this Coug special at the Seed – a pitcher of Manny’s and 20 hot wings for $19.99, a savings of $10. Go Cougs!

NEXT WEEK: Jeff Nusser of CougCenter.com gives us his Washington State wisdom in a guest post on the Go 2 Guy’s site. I’m looking forward to that because Nusser knows his stuff as opposed to, uh, me.

Jim – I agree with your take on the Dawg game, except I think that the spread will be wider. UW – 35. Wasatch U. – 20. I’m expecting an old-fashioned shoot-out; it should be fun to watch. And Coach Holt? He’s a tool.

I’ll see you at the Hills Seed Coug Bat (***) Cave tomorrow. Never heard of Manny’s before, so I’m hoping that it doesn’t have a Ramirez doing the brewmastering (is that a word?). AK & links SWAG coming your way tomorrow, for a change. As long as you’ll share with the twins & Willie, of course. So get the defibrillator paddles ready – Xmas ’08 just came a little late this year.

WSU – 24. Boulder JC – 13 – (but I’m really shooting in the dark on this one. I’ll be sure to ask Manny & his wings tomorrow for their opinion). Later. PS. my Ali is behind the Willie SWAG – so blame her on that one (she’s got a good heart).

    • Sounds great Craig. See you tomorrow. Willie’s kind of hurting tonight. Not sure if it’s his hips or what. I’ll probably sleep downstairs with him. Glad to hear that Ali’s doing better.

Sounds like you and I have the same instincts about our pooches, Jim. I’ve slept on the couch the past 2 nights with Ali sleeping on ‘her’ recliner next to me. She had a pretty rough week with the tests @ Dr. Terry’s for her tumors (all turned out benign, thanks heavens), and with me starting a small Doggie Daycare in my home. Ali handled all that stress relatively well, but she’s 9 now, and so I wanted to make sure.

Great time yesterday @ the Mustard Seed – thanks for your great hosting. You made everyone in attendance – even Dawgs like me and a few others – feel right at home. I’ve done that gig before when putting on gigs for my softball teams in Bellevue & North Bend in years past – that job is definitely harder than it looks. But always SO MUCH FUN when it all comes together……..

Peace. …..and, oh yeah, the Seaslugs game today v. Hotlanta? JUST LOSE BABY! SUCK4LUCK!!

  2. I took the 10 points. Can’t figure out why the Vegas line went up so much.

  3. I’m concerned about this game as good defense usually beats good offense.

  4. Hey Jim! I’m a husky fan but always enjoy reading your blog, and find that you’re pretty accurate in predicting husky wins, hope you’re right about this one!
