Snippy Sark and Needing a Hot Shower After Husky Game
I know it’s a cliché, but I love building mountains out of molehills, especially when the molehills pop up on Montlake.
I went to the game with the Go 2 Wife and the Go 2 Twins, and I’ll tell you this – I will never root for the Huskies again. Let me repeat – I WILL NEVER ROOT FOR THE HUSKIES AGAIN. One more time: I WILL NEVER ROOT FOR THE HUSKIES AGAIN.
I say this because I felt very uncomfortable all day long. I felt like I was going out on my wife. I felt dirty. I felt awful. And to be honest, as much as I was pulling for Michael and his team to do well, I wanted Cal to score at the end of the game. I wanted to see the Bears’ two-point conversion. I wanted Husky fans to sweat it out even more than they had to with that goal-line stand.
I usually walk out of Husky Stadium disappointed when the Huskies win. I always walk out elated when they lose. The sight of dejected Husky fans is one of the most beautiful sights ever – better than Mount Rainier and the Space Needle put together.
But Saturday I walked out and was sort-of happy in a weird way that Washington had won, hoping that it made Michael feel a bit better. It really bothered me to watch him on the field and see him move around – the way he walked, and just the way he carried himself reminded me of his dad.
Thankfully that day’s over and I can go back to fully rooting against the Dawgs, hoping they get it handed to them but good by Utah this week in Salt Lake City.
And back to the mole hills… Have you noticed that Coach Sark has gotten snippy of late? I have. When Mike Salk asked him about the criticism of defensive coordinator Nick Holt, he had a short and testy reply. Then when Salk followed up by saying something about comments on the Internet, Sark replied: “I don’t read anything on the Internet.”
Never mind that Coach Sark has his own website, CoachSark.com, and has a Twitter account. He never reads anything on the Internet… yeah, right coach. By the way, when you’re on Twitter, take a look at Fake Coach Sark sometime – that guy nails it with his tweets.
Then yesterday at his Monday press briefing, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times had the audacity to ask Coach Sark about the punting situation. As I recall, both of the Husky punters are pretty good. It was a battle during fall camp to see which one would be the starter between Kiel Rasp and Will Mahan.
I’m not sure what happened in the Cal game, maybe Rasp didn’t have that great of a day, but whatever the case, Condotta asked about the punters, and Coach Sark gave him a short and snippy reply.
As I mentioned in a Facebook post, you can’t really blame Coach Sark because questions about punters are the most highly controversial questions a reporter can ask. I want to ask punting questions at almost every press conference that I attend, but I always stop myself, knowing that coaches always bristle when you ask about their punters. Brother…
Not sure what’s up with Coach Sark. Maybe he’s feeling the pressure. I sure as hell hope so. And I sure as hell hope it increases after the Utes lay a whoopin’ on his troops this week.
I will stick up for my boy, Condotta, ‘til the cows come home. You disrespect Bob Condotta, you’re disrespecting me, dammit! Bob’s a Coug! He’s just stuck having to write about the Dawgs for now. He’ll be back where he belongs someday – at Martin Stadium as a proud alum rooting for the Cougs with his kids.
Hope you all have a great day. Go Cougs.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill – I heard the press conference and Sark wasn’t snippy – in fact, he’s usually nicer to Condotta than the rest of them. And Jim, please don’t go to Husky stadium again, unless the Cougs are playing. Thank you
As a fellow Coug, I am glad you got that out of your system and will now return to your brilliantly Crimson colored journalism!
Condotta is an outstanding contributor to the Seattle Times. His coverage of the Huskies is second to none. But I am not sure Sark is concerned that messing with Bob is messing with you.
Is there a Cougs-are-pathetic blog out there? I’d love to read one of those.
Thanks for saying it like it is Jim… Sark is going to have to live up to his expectations as a third year coach.
Go Cougs!

Go Cougs, Rhodeshouse. Apple Cup will be interesting this year. At least I hope it will be. I keep telling my kids that we’re going to win.
I just think it is amusing that Cougs can’t root for Huskies no matter what….yet most Dawg fans I know have rooted for the Cougs whenever they are in a bowl game…..they represent our state and our conference.
Bob, I agree with you. I’m a Dawg from the Sixkiller Days (I know, that makes me old & decrepit), but that hasn’t stopped me from also rooting for the Cougs each f’ball season, except for the Apple Cup, of course. Don’t know why we don’t get much reciprocity from our Palouse brothers. Pretty silly tradition of there’s, I may say. Seems to be a parallel with a lot of the Teabaggers on the national political scene: some people just seem to revel in their own bad juices and equally bad mojo for others not identical in every way to themselves. Kinda sad in a way.
Was TX Gov. Perry a Coug? Sure seems that way at times from his 3 GOP debate performances, doesn’t it? He is so proud in proclaiming his hatred and disdain for everyone not like him. Count me proudly in that camp.
Go Dawgs. And go (canine) dogs, as well (my own 9-year old Ali the Wonder Dawg black lab-mix is undergoing some $400- of tests tomorrow @ the Go2Guy’s pet clinic in Issaquah (thanks Dr. Terry!) for her 9 abdominal tumors. Hopefully all Cougs & Dawgs can at least unite in hoping for good results for her. She’s been a great ‘dog’ and a terrific member of our family. Woof!
