The Mike Leach Madness Continues

I had a brief e-mail exchange yesterday with WSU assistant athletic director Dan Meyer, who either heard what I said on “The Kevin Calabro Show” or read what I wrote on this website about wanting to get season tickets.

So he contacted me about that. I haven’t gotten them as yet, but I will, probably in section 24, either two or three, hopefully somewhere in the vicinity of my buddies Robert Landick and Todd Lund.

Anyway, I asked Meyer about the buzz in Pullman, and he said: “I’ve overseen the ticket office since 2004 and there has not been a better day for selling new season tickets than (Tuesday). Now that I’m also overseeing the annual giving side of the house, I can say that the phones have not stopped ringing in our suite either.”

TEXT MESSAGE: During Tuesday’s show, we got a great one from the 425 that referenced Paul Wulff’s comments about the Cougs not “eating our own.”

Said the 425 texter: “Yeah, baby, we eat our own and wash it down with Captain Morgan at a bowl game.”

Harsh, insensitive… and funny.

E-MAIL CENTRAL: I thought a reader summed it up really well in an e-mail, capturing how many of us felt about the firing of Wulff and the hiring of Mike Leach:

“I feel like my uncle died and left me a million dollars.”

LEACH BOOK: I made the short trip from the Renton Highlands to the Issaquah Barnes & Noble yesterday, just to buy Leach’s book “Swing Your Sword.” They were the only Barnes & Noble that didn’t have it in stock so I ordered it on-line and am having it shipped to my house. It’s also cheaper on-line. I think I paid $19.96 plus tax.

SKITTLES: I asked this question on Facebook last night, and I’ll ask it here today: Am I the only person in town who didn’t know that Marshawn Lynch of the Seahawks eats Skittles during games?

PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: I know it’s crazy. I know I shouldn’t do it. I know that I should know better. And I want you to remind me tomorrow about how dumb I was.

But I’m taking UCLA and the 32 points in tonight’s Pac-12 championship game against the Ducks in Eugene. I look at the game and assume that the Ducks will steamroll the mostly hapless Bruins.

But I just have a feeling that UCLA will muster up a good effort in its last game with Rick Neuheisel as its coach. Remember, this is where Neuheisel got the first leg of his Northwest Championship in whatever season that was when he was the head coach at Washington.

The Bruins carried him off the practice field in Westwood yesterday, so I’m assuming they’ll play really hard for him tonight. They’re outmanned and overmatched, but I still think they’ll lose by less than 32.

I PROMISE: I’ll have the details of the Huskies’ 12th loss during their winless 2008 season tomorrow instead of today like I said I would. Complete details of Tyrone Willingham’s last game, a 48-7 pasting by Cal, featuring a school-record 311 rushing yards by Jahvid Best, for everyone to reminiscence about.

GO 2 GUY IN KITSAP SUN: Besides here and 710Sports.com, beginning this Monday I’ll be writing weekly columns for the Kitsap Sun. I want to thank sports editor Chuck Stark for the opportunity. I used to live in Port Orchard and was a subscriber to the paper so I’m looking forward to working as a free-lancer for Chuck and his staff.

    Jim,

You are forgiven by all us Cougs for not having your story written on the Mutts perfect season in 2008. You had a great excuse…..
A few thoughts…. One thing is now crystal clear, The Moos is loose in the Palouse! Wild Bill, you fooled them all you SOB! You fooled them all! Man oh Man! Talk about swinging for the fence, going from the outhouse to the penthouse, and all the other euphemisms. ( Sorry about the big word there Mr. tham)
We all liked and cared about CPW and still do, but I agree with the Moos, in that given one chance to right the WAZZU ship, might as well go “all in” and hire the baddest Pirate in the land, who is in need of a new ship of his own to Captain.
Yes Leach is way out there, swings his own sword,if you will, and potentially could run the good ship WAZZU up on a reef or worse. I for one, am willing to take that risk, it only to ride the high seas of 10 win seasons once again, and to see the Jolly Roger flying side by side our beloved Cougar flag, as we sail championship quality Cougar football through the fields of gold of the Palouse. Yes I am a Pirate. Peace

  2. Was really hoping Levy might get a shot to stay on the staff in Pullman – thoughts?

So Jim, what does the Drill think of all this?

Looking forward to seeing you in Sec. 24.

    GO COUGS!

    • Wazzulander: I’ll have to find out, I’ll give him a call and let you know. Thanks for stopping by the website. Go Cougs. Jim.

    Jim,
I wrote on your website a few days ago. I looked back at the emotion of what I was writing. I was so down and out Even the thought of having Paul Wulff back for another season made my stomach turn in ways I never felt before about our beloved Cougs.
My elation and my optimism are back. Now, every time I turn on the radio, someone is talking about Leach and Cougar Football. Even “the Groz” has positive things to say about the Cougs.

I think Christmas came early this year Jim and I can’t wait to read all of your stories this year about the positives and the successes of our team next year.
    Thank You Jim.

    • Rhodehouse!!! Thanks for your comments. And thanks for stopping by the website. I’m ready for the Mike Leach era to begin. Can’t wait to see our offense with him in charge. Should be fun. Go Cougs. Jim.

Can’t wait for Apple Cup 2012 in a sold out SRO Martin Stadium to watch Mike Leach throw the ball all over the Huskies’ crappy secondary. Nick Holt’s face will be in contortion along with his
    stomach trying to defend it.

    • The season has’t even started but you are sure the UW defense won’t improve?
