Coug Party At The Village Pub!
Tonight is the Cougars’ first game – against BYU – at 7 o’clock.
And like every other Coug, I’m more fired up than I’ve ever been about the start of a football season now that the Mike Leach era is about to start.
If you’re looking for a place to watch the game, you can join me at the Village Pub in Magnolia, where I’ll be hosting a 710 ESPN Cougar viewing party. Should be a good time with drink and food specials all night long. Plus we’ll be giving away tickets to the Coug-Duck game Sept. 29 at Century Link Field.
I’m not sure what to make of tonight’s game. On the biased Coug side, I like to think we’ve got a good shot at winning because our newly configured offense should be hell on wheels with all of the skill players we have. But on the more objective side, there’s a reason why BYU is favored by 13 1/2 points. Or I should say, there ARE reasons why BYU is favored by nearly two touchdowns.
Those reasons have something to do with BYU being 10-3 last year and returning seven starters on offense and seven on defense. Plus they’re playing at home in Provo. Plus I’m guessing that our defense, depleted as it is at linebacker and along the line, will probably have a long night.
If we win I’ll bet the score will be something like 48-45. Naturally I’ll no doubt take the Cougs and the points, but oddsmakers are unbelievably good at what they do. Which means that as much as we like to think that Leach will turn things around overnight, there’s a chance that we lose by those two touchdowns.
It will be great to have the season underway in any case and I hope to see you tonight.
Go Cougs!

I never thought I would see the day I would root for BYU………that day has come, and they did not disappoint.
Welcome to the PAC12 Mike. I gotta think Wulff’s guys would have been better tonite. Tuel??? He stunk, period.
It’s gonna be a loooonnnnnnggggg season.
Look at the bright side, you got two patsies coming up………although the way they played tonite these could be barn burners.
Nice to see those long faces in the crowd tonite.
hahahahahah
Why did I ever agree to take the $2.3 million and come to Pullman? I figured I had a chance to show everyone I could still coach and I’d be outta here in a year, two at the most. Please don’t tell me I’ll be stuck here forever. Wow, we’re bad.
I live in Vienna and so I taped the Coug’s game. The first defensive and offensive series by the Cougs was pretty good and its a good sign to come when they play more average size teams. You should be encouraged of what they did in the 1st quarter. They will be OK this year.
