News From The Go 2 Guy

Welcome back to the website if you’ve been here before or just plain “welcome” if this is your first visit to www.jimmoorethego2guy.com.

I have been rather sporadic in my posts the last few months, and I chalk this up to being really busy with my job at 710 ESPN Seattle and as a dad and dog owner at home.

Truth of the matter, I still have time to write, but I struggle with being tired and lazy when I’m not fatigued and lethargic.

But through the help of Diet Rockstars, I am fighting through the fatness and oldness to rededicate myself to the site!

It is, after all, just one week until The Mike Leach Era starts at Washington State with a game against BYU.

Speaking of which, I hope you’ll join me at the Village Pub in Magnolia for a 710 ESPN Seattle Cougar viewing party of the first game on Aug. 30. Kickoff’s at 7 p.m.

We’ll have prize giveaways and drink specials galore. We’ll sing the fight song all night long. I’m hoping that my Uncle Rick will come to the Village Pub so I’ll have a designated driver. And I hope you’ll come too.

I’ve talked with Patrick Welch, official designer and director of jimmoorethego2guy.com, and we’ve agreed that we should narrow our focus with the site. Coug-centric was the term he used.

Which means I’m going back to my roots. I’m going back to what made me the nearly-award-winning columnist that I was at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and remain to this day.

I’m planning to only post stuff about the Cougs and the Huskies. As you know, it’ll all be glowing stuff about the Cougs. And as usual, I’ll go out of my way to trash the Dawgs. With them, you never have to go very far out of your way because they serve stuff up on a purple-and-gold platter, ripe to be ridiculed.

And if you liked The Drill, my alter-ego, he’ll be back too, and I can’t wait to hear from him if I can waken him from his drunken stupor.

If you’d like to read my ramblings elsewhere, we’ll have links here to the Monday morning Kitsap Sun columns, the Wednesday morning 710Sports.com posts and weekly stories on Cougfan.com. Tomorrow’s Cougfan.com story is about Leach’s wife, Sharon.

I’m also in my third year at 710 ESPN Seattle on “The Kevin Calabro Show,” weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. If you’re not in Seattle, you can catch the show on 710Sports.com.

I hesitate to bring all of this stuff up because, as I was telling Patrick yesterday, I’m uncomfortable with self-promoters; people who wave their arms to get attention and basically scream: “HEY, LOOK AT ME AND LOOK AT WHAT I’M DOING!!!”

But in this fickle world of radio and print media, it makes sense to ‘build my brand’ as they say (even if it means I can just continue being me).

So here’s the plan:
• Post more frequently
• Posting more videos than ever before. Back by unpopular demand, we’ll have more videos from my truck and more videos of my golden retriever and more videos of random Cougs singing the fight song.
• Having guest posts. If you’re a Coug and want to post something on this site, let me know. Just send it to jim@jimmoorethego2guy.com. Bruce Maupin wrote about his Coug motorcycle – look for that post in the coming weeks.
• I’m hoping to get the first guest post from Dennis Bounds, the anchorman at KING-TV. Don’t know if you knew this, but when he came to Seattle, he adopted the Cougs as his favorite team and goes to Pullman for almost every home game.
• If you’ve got some cool Coug photos of newly renovated Martin Stadium or whatever else, send those to us too. Bruce sent this sweet picture of his bike.

Oh, and if you want to be a Go 2 Guy Insider, by all means, please sign up. It’s easy to do. I think you’ll find that sucker on the right side of every page.

It’s free. I’m planning to pass along behind-the-scenes stuff from the Calabro show and other places and practices.

One last thing, if you’d like me to appear at a meeting or talk in front of your group, let me know. I’ll talk about the Cougs, the Huskies, the Calabro show and other stuff on the Seattle sports scene.

Thanks again and have a great weekend. Oddsmakers are giving us 13 ½ points against BYU and I’m planning to take them.

Go Cougs!

Welcome back, and thanks for arranging the viewing parties. I like the new format. Really don’t care about anything non-Coug, anyway.

Idea for column: We’ve been win-challenged for so long, but, perhaps the curse of the Price-ster is coming to an end. Remember, many postulated that CMP sold his/our souls to get us to those three ten win seasons. Now, we have the Pirate of the Palouse and the PAC-12 on our side. PAC-12? Yep, note that this year we get Cal in Pullman the week before the Big Game, and the Fuskies in Pullman the day after Thanksgiving. Even the Bruins are on our side, else why would they have hired Mora? Hope springs eternal, especially before we play any actual games.

    Cheers and Go Cougs, HDCoug

  2. Love it Jim — more writing and more Cougs. And with seven wins and a bowl game this year, there’s going to be a lot to talk about.

Welcome Back yourself Jim as I have silently followed you since your Seattle P.I. days while have always enjoyed your whit, humor and stories. Nice to hear The Drill is coming back while looking forward to reading what he has to say. Keep up the good work while perhaps one day might be afforded the opportunity to meet you in person.

    • hey lonny, great to hear from you. i get over to port orchard once in awhile, still miss living there to be honest. thanks for stopping by the site. we should have one at the bethel tavern the next time i’m over your way…

  4. Dale: Thanks for commenting. Great idea for a column, appreciate that. Have a good weekend. Hope to see you back here soon. Go Cougs. Jim.

Jim, I’m looking forward to reading your insights on the revamped website. I’ll be in Provo for the opening game of the Leach era and in Vegas a couple weeks after that hoping for a 3-0 start before heading into P12 play.

    Go Cougs,
    Jay

    • Hey Jay, haven’t heard from you in a long time, should be a fun year, much different year, please God, i don’t think we can take it anymore if it’s like the last 4 years. Keep in touch. Go Cougs. See you in Pullman. Jim.

James: About time, sir! I don’t give a whit about the Cougs (or UW for that matter), but you do frequently keep me entertained, and after all, that is your goal, isn’t it? Wasn’t going to bring this up, but it’s as thrilling as anything else that’s come up on your site, recently. A month or 2 ago, you passed me on Coal Creek Pkwy., then rolled the red light on Sunset Blvd. I realize that 99.9% of all drivers roll stop signs and as many red lights as possible but from my own experience I’ll let ya know that the cost of rolling a traffic sign (as of 2006) is $124.00. Probably a bit more now.

    Best of luck!

    • Gary!!! Great to hear from you sir. Thanks for the tip. I’ll stop running those suckers. Hope you’ll come back to the site. The plan is to be more consistent with the postings. Should be plenty of Mike Leach-generated material this year. And Coach Sark never disappoints himself. Jim.

  7. From experience…family, work, and the dog only gets you an excuse through about August 10th – you are WAY overdue!

    Looking forward to it.

Just when I was beginning to like you, you have returned to “trashing” the Huskies–Oh well, I still enjoy your articles about the PAC 12 teams–just save plenty of “trash talk” for the Ducks. I look forward to reading your material again–good luck on the season (till the Thanksgiving weekend.) Fred

  9. Jim, haven’t seen your prediction (at least in the Kitsap Sun) of how many wins the Cougs or Huskies will have this year. Maybe the Cougs can pull an upset or two this year and keep the fans happy with their million dollar coach. art

Will you promise a column or two from the Go 2 Golden Retriever?
